Do you believe it’s already October? 2008 has flown by and before we know it, the holiday season will be here. Halloween, one of my favorite holidays, is upon us this month. Do you have your costume ready? I just want to remind you that Erotic Cabaret Boutique (1222 Westheimer) has a phenomenal selection of costumes this season for both men and women. Shop in the store or shop online at www.eroticcabaret.com and you may also add Erotic Cabaret as a friend on myspace to receive invitations to in-store VIP events or special discounts on occasion. Click to their profile at www.myspace.com/eroticcabaretboutique. I want to extend supreme kudos to Arianna, who oversees the store’s myspace page. She does a hell of a job. It’s always fresh. The sales staff in the store is exceptionally knowledgeable. Ask for Colin, Tabbie, Stacey, Arianna, Cat, Erin, Frankie, Suzi or Ashley who were all at the recent in-store event and they can assist you in finding the perfect costume. My faves are Colin, Cat and Tabbie. When I’m in the mood to spend, they help me do just that. To the max. No complaints, though. I am the person I am because of my Erotic Cabaret purchases *giggle* always happy. Men, EC has costumes for you guys too.

October has already been an exciting month for the Queen. On the 3rd, Erotic Cabaret and I hosted their pre-Halloween party called “the Sexiest Show on Earth.” Stay tuned for photos of the event on their myspace page and in a few of Houston’s Nightlife magazines next month. I was given the fun task of choosing our male models for the event and I’d like to thank Michaelangelo Morales (fit2fight.com,) Cody Powell (Cody Powell Designs) and my gorgeous co-worker at Cyclone Anaya’s, server Manuel Pagaza for doing such great work showing off the men’s costumes that they modeled. The female models were also outstanding, so thank you too, ladies! I’d also like to thank the food sponsors, Nooky’s Bakery and Cyclone Anaya’s in midtown and the beverage sponsors, Snow Queen Vodka and Ty Ku, which is a new Asian Citrus Liqueur that tastes simply scrumptious when mixed with Snow Queen Vodka. I did extensive research on tasting the combination. Ty Ku is packaged in the world’s only illuminating bottle and every bottle of Ty Ku comes with one of six inspirational Kanji caps. Haven’t heard of Ty Ku? Visit www.trytyku.com for further details. Ty Ku gets the Queen’s stamp of approval and I will be sure to buy some to stock my bar at home with.

After the event at Erotic Cabaret, I visited a new venue called Union Lounge (2708 Bagby) with a group of new friends I met through Michelangelo. We had a blast. Our bartender was Gevi and she was fantastic. The place had a spacious patio with a bar outside, as well. I liked the crowd, they were “real” and not pretentious. Union was busy, but not so uncomfortably packed that it took 10 minutes to get a drink like it does at some places. The service was prompt and Gevi had a great attitude. We could actually move around with out bumping into people which is a pleasant plus for me. I recommend you check out Union, if you haven’t yet. They are also open for Happy Hour.

On the 5th, I hosted the 4th Anniversary party of this newsletter, a party called 4 PLAY, at Bronx Bar (2670 Sage) and had a terrific time. I just want to thank hottie bartender Crystal for the excellent service and Marketing Director, Rae Millican for helping me plan the celebration. DJ Synplicity was on hand. He also was the DJ at my last birthday party, also at Bronx, and is one of my favorite DJs in town.

Bronx Bar has a third location premiering in mid-November, so stay tuned for details about the Grand Opening. Bronx Bar #1 (5555 Morningside) will do the Halloween theme of “Cops and Robbers” with their patio being transformed into a huge prison cell on Saturday, November 1st. Bronx Bar #2 (2670 Sage) is themed “Heaven and Hell.” Their Halloween party is on October 31st and I cannot wait to see the décor that night! Two parties in one weekend, so you can get every penny’s worth of play out of all the money you spent on your Halloween costume.

Houston Single Source will host a “Welcome to Las Vegas” Party at Zake Sushi Lounge (2946 South Shepherd) from 6PM-10PM on Friday, October 24th. Fall is a busy season in Vegas and Houston Single Source is bringing a little of that happily over-the-top city to Houston. Try your luck at the black jack tables or beat the odds at craps and roulette, With a whole bunch of games and glitz, this HSS event will capture the sights and sounds of Vegas, including high-rollers, boas, poker chips and shot-gun weddings. At HSS parties, you just never know who you might meet: Elvis strolling around or maybe Celine Dion, but don't worry, Siegfried and Roy will be staying in Nevada. Remember, "what happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas.” Houston Single Source is giving away a trip to Las Vegas at this party, but you have to be present to win. You can even play a 5-person poker game with great prizes going to the best hand. Viva Las Vegas! This event is free for HSS members and $15 for non-members. For more information or to RSVP, please call 713-630-0546, click to www.HoustonSingleSource.com or email RSVP@HoustonSingleSource.com.

Swivel Lounge (2621 Milam) is throwing a Boo Bash called “Dirty Dizznee” where guests are encouraged to “sex-up” their favorite Disney Cartoon Character. Doors open at 10PM and DJ Luny will be spinning the best in hip-hop, dance and mash-up. The Queen has no idea WHAT mash-up is. I’m just a reporter. Sounds like a great theme, but since I’d rather eat glass than listen to hip-hop, I won’t be stopping by Swivel that night.

November will bring the return of Houston Sport and Scene magazine and I will be writing an article or two for the upcoming issue of HS&S so keep an eye out for it and grab your copy of the magazine. I usually pick up my copy at Front Porch Pub (217 Gray.) Speaking of publications, there is new one out there called The Houston Rag. The first issue was available at Erotic Cabaret during the recent event, so I grabbed a copy. Contact lonestarpatio@yahoo.com or call 713-880-1282 to see where you can pick up your copy. The Houston Rag raises awareness and educates the masses on local art, music, entertainment and other stuff. The creator, Kristine Kozar was at the Erotic Cabaret event so I got to meet her and she was also an attendee at my 4 PLAY party. Kristine does event coordinating, marketing, promotions, Public Relations and fundraising, in addition to writing the Houston Rag. To meet Kristine, see www.myspace.com/LoneStarPatio and add her as a friend. Kristine is a cool chick.

Midtown is not just a great area of bars, clubs and restaurants, but it’s also a neighborhood with great places that allow you to bring your dog out with you, like the porch of Front Porch Pub, where I met my favorite hound, Rowan the 200-lb. Irish Wolfhound. He rocks, as do his owners Stacy and Garrett. Anyway, no wonder one of midtown’s establishments, the Tasting Room, has created an event especially for dogs and their owners, called “Yappy Fest.” On the last Sunday of every month you can enjoy a glass of your favorite wine with your favorite pooch. The event will feature great wine specials, sliders from the grill brought to you by Chef Steve Super and free treats for your canine friends. Special Guest and dog industry-approved experts: URBAN TAILS, the longest-running pet daycare facility in Houston, will be presenting free pet courses throughout the day. The party starts at 2PM on the last Sunday of November.

Are you an industry worker? By industry, I mean service, hospitality, bar, restaurant, club, hotel or even hairstylist, nail tech, personal trainer, figure it out…if you provide a service, this event is for you. Barstool Magazine is hosting a Halloween party for those of us who will be working on the actual date for Halloween. The event is dubbed HOLLYWEEN, as in “Hollywood” so come dressed as your favorite movie character, either or alive or dead, on Wednesday, October 29th at Pandora (1815 Washington.) DJ Bizz will be there, and for me, that’s ALL I need to hear! He is one of my top ten DJs in Houston. Get your costume together and get ready for an amazing time to be had by all.

NEWS IN THE BIZ: One of my all-time favorite bartenders from Roxy and Spy days, Jennifer Spackman is back in Houston from a stint in Las Vegas that included her bartending at the world-famous Pure Nightclub, and she is now slinging drinks at House of Blues. Chris Lawless (Flawless Lawless) has departed from a 2-year long career at the Flat and now resides at Warehouse Live. Cyclone Anaya’s in midtown has a new sassy female bartender, Brandy Thomas, who was a manager and bartender at Katz’s on Westheimer. Oh, and by the way, Cyclone Anaya’s is currently looking to hire servers and hostesses for the midtown location. If you are interested, please apply in person Monday through Thursday between 2-4PM at 309 Gray Street. Let them know you heard about it in my newsletter. Rabbit in the Moon is performing on Halloween night at the Meridian (1308 Chartres.)

Might I give a little bit of advice to those of you in the biz: when your bar closes at 2AM and it is only 12:30, you are serving a table of eight people in the service industry, who have been sitting there the last hour after a they have had hard night at work, who tip a minimum of 25% and come to your establishment A LOT, don’t you dare ask a patron to MOVE while you sweep so you can sweep under her chair (are you KIDDING me?) an hour and a half before closing. Standard protocol is to do your chores at closing, my friends. If you ever do this, be certain that I am not sitting beside that patron to witness to your rudeness because not only will I call you out in my newsletter but I also will (and I did) tell your boss. People, your guests pay your salary, so recognize that and respect the fact that your income is based on your actions and your attitude. Any questions? You will not rush your guests out any earlier, but you can be sure they won’t want you to serve them again.

Start your Halloween at an annual event hosted by Em and Lee Boutique in midtown in the courtyard behind the Em and Lee store in the Post Midtown Apartments from 6PM to 9PM. A good place to get in a festive mood before hitting the bars, this party will feature food and libations from Farrago, Cyclone Anaya’s, New York Pizzeria and the Tasting Room. You can enter the courtyard through Farrago, New York Pizzeria or Em and Lee boutique and party on the patio with the DJ and the rest of the crowd. There will be a 20% discount at the boutique during this event, so bring moola to shop with, ladies, because Em and Lee has really cute fashions.

One last thing, there’s a new nightlife website for Houston called www.HoustonMax.com and it is an Online Social Nightlife Community. Houston Max hopes to also launch a magazine in 2009 featuring news about nightlife, entertainment and lifestyles. Please make sure you visit the site and introduce yourself to Houstonians, which already has over 10,000 members.
