In
the Art world, "how’s it hanging?" takes
on a different meaning. Mollie Moore hosted an Art Reception
at the Ruby Room recently, and her work was featured at the
Women’s Festival as well. The next reception with Mollie
Moore’s art will be at the Ruby Room on November 11th.
She is one to watch and I think she’ll make a BIG splash
in Houston’s pool of artists. Plus, I just really like
the chick. She’s way cool & so are her paintings.
See more of her creations at www.molliemoore.com. I met Mollie
via Mitch Cohen, who’s ultra-hip, and well-connected
in the Art Scene. For more on Mitch and his talented wife,
Carolyn, visit www.mitchandcarolyn.com. He writes a weekly
newsletter that you can request to subscribe to, free of charge.
For a list of all the answers to "WHERE is it hanging?" check
out the Yale Street Market website, and check out the market
itself which is held in the historic Heights on the first
Saturday of each month. Click to www.yalestreetmarket.com.
Everyone
is listening to the live broadcast on Fridays on KRBE. It’s none other than Johnny J broadcasting live
from Opus at 412 Main. I usually get all the 411 from "Opusland" from
their in-house Events Vixen, the lovely Ami Dave. To book a
party at her club, give Ami a call at 713-222-OPUS. Speaking
of special venues to host events, have you ever thought of
hosting your next shindig at the Houston Zoo? How cool would
it be to have a party in the Reptile house or to host your
company’s Christmas party under a canopy near the reflection
pool? You can even have a live animal experience during your
celebration. The possibilities are magnificent and Cheryl McSorley
and the Event Team at the Houston Zoo can customize an unforgettable
event. Be sure to check out the new elephant and giraffe babies,
recently born at the Zoo. A nifty family event for the last
11 years is the Zoo Boo, and it has attracted thousands of
families to the Houston Zoo where they are guaranteed safe
Halloween fun with a wild twist. This Zoo event has grown into
Houston’s largest Halloween celebration and this year
it will be bigger and better than ever. It will take place
on October 16th & 17th and 23rd & 24th For more
scoop, visit www.houstonzoo.org.
I mentioned
a few of my favorite newsletters in the last issue of QOC,
but
I left out my most favorite of all! For over
seven years now, world-renown hospitality diva, Cleverley
Stone has
composed www.cleverleysnewsletter.com and
has kept this town “in-the-know” on
fascinating restaurant, club and social happenings. She
is also 50% of the Dynamic Duo of Stevens and Cleverley,
who were
hosts extraordinaire of the Stevens & Cleverley Radio
Show. Add yourself to the “A-list” by emailing StevensandCleverley@yahoo.com and
stay in-tune with her newsletter as well. There’s
a great Houston events newsletter geared towards singles.
Each week the newsletter reaches over 12,735 Houston-area
singles!
All are welcome to sign up free of charge by just doing
a cut and paste of the following: http://www.houstonsinglesource.com/houstonupcomingevents.htm.
Be sure
to read the next QOC issue on November 1st. It will feature
a spotlight
on speed-dating events. Those events
are FAR more ideal for finding romance than one would think!
I’ve
gone "undercover" and participated in a speed-dating
party to see what they are all about. It is NOT nerds and wallflowers,
it is a group of busy professionals who have chosen to meet
others through a series of several mini-dates in one evening,
while having a good time during the process. The new site www.houstonpartyratings.com is rapidly making a name for itself as a source for nightspots.
Once you’ve done a thorough check of the site, send
your comments to houstonpartyratings@yahoo.com. Tell them
you heard
about their site in the Queen of Clubs.
I’m "slap-happy" because Aeros season is here!
The first home game is October 16th at the Toyota Center. Season
tickets are still available through the world’s friendliest
Aeros ticket representative, Jason Elliot. The Queen is
a huge Aeros fan and a big fan of Jason Elliot, too. www.aeros.com The Aeros have a great Fan Club with mega-benefits, parties
and discounts for its members.
This sounds
like a good time, for just $10, you can see four bands and
drink
free beer. Yes, I said free. It’s the
third annual Hammered Nail Birthday Bash. Support local
music and support your drinking habit, details available
at www.hammerednail.com.
I hope
everyone has a safe and happy Halloween. Make it your best
Halloween
ever by attending the Downtown Entertainment
District Alliance’s Main Event. The theme is "Elvis
is Everywhere" and the parade and festivities get
underway on Friday the 29th. Contact the parade coordinator,
Jen Hogan
(jen@clubsinthecity.com). She is the beholder of ALL there
is to know about the parade. Don’t forget to send
me your funny Halloween stories and the best story wins
a
drink tab
at a cool venue downtown!
