Two days until St. Patrick's Day. I can hardly wait! Tonight is the Sexy Kilt contest at Brian O'Neills at 5555 Morningside, in Rice Village. I'll be there to judge all the hunks in skirts. Some girls have all the luck! Come out to watch the fun. Last year's winner, Sean Kearns, is coming back to defend his title. This man has got some really nice calves, ladies. He's a cutie-pie. Extra special good luck to Trey Warren, who will represent Slainte and Julian Ritchey who will represent 6° Lounge. May the best man win. You can see photos from last year's competition at www.brianoneills.com. Matt is my favorite bartender at Brian O'Neill's, so say hello to him. Tell him I said that, and ask him what the verse for "second" is. He'll laugh because that's a standing joke with us. Long story.

The 40th annual Griff's week-long St. Patty's Day festival kicked-off on March 10th with the St. Pat's Queen contest. There were eight contestants and 36 judges. Odd ratio, isn't it? Mindy Balfour was the darling representative for Brian O'Neill's and Celise Keller was the gorgeous contestant from Slainte. Neither of them placed in the top three. I'm appalled by that fact. Smells like "rigged" to me. On a brighter note, congratulations to the winner. Sorry, I forgot her name. Next topic

There is a phenomenal trend in the monthly after-hours parties hosted by Spoiled Boyz and Beyond Entertainment. With the most recent being just last weekend at the Grasshopper, March is lucky enough to play host to a second party. This one will be one of the biggest parties of the year and it will be held at M Bar. Rise-up, bang the drums, lift those dancing feet, and seek SALVATION! Celebrate Easter Morning with a dance party of the highest magnitude. Late night Saturday, March 26th, BEYOND Entertainment's Spoiled Boyz produce SALVATION After-Hours at M Bar, located at 402 Main Street.

Miami's talented Remix Artist/DJ ALYSON CALAGNA will be providing the rhythms. Live life-raising performance by Dance Music Icon DYNASTY. There will be an amazing laser light show and reconfigured sound. Doors open 3:30AM-10:00AM. Advance tickets available at M2M Fashion on Montrose for $30. A portion of the door proceeds benefit local HIV/AIDS service organizations. This will be my first time to help promote and be part of these world-renown events by Spoiled Boyz. Join me in the wee hours and dance, dance, dance.

If you're an Aggie, there will be a Jud Johnson show at Texas A&M on March 23rd, which could attract a crowd of as many as 1,000 people. I can understand why, because I've heard his CD and Jud Johnson is a talented Houston-based songwriter. He mixes jam band, rock & roll, jazz, and acoustic music all in one song set. I'd compare him to the likes of Dave Matthews and John Mayer (only Jud is FAR better looking than either of those guys.) This group of musicians blows your mind with the funky beats of the saxophone to the roaring melodies of the lead guitar and onto the soothing comfort of the lyrics. This new young songwriter is surely on his way to the top of the music world. To inquire about booking Jud Johnson, you can email music@judjohnson.com. Also, visit www.judjohnson.com.

On St. Pat's Day, promoters from www.vinylpimp.com are doing the Dirty Leprechaun Party at Hush which will include beads, green beer and several other surprises. Hush is on I-10, before Barker Cypress, past Highway 6, at 15625 Katy Freeway. You may also know those www.vinylpimp.com bad boys from hosting YEARS of successful promotions and parties around town. They are also the brains behind the after-hours promotions at Pink Monkey. In the old Rehab spot, Pink Monkey is 18 and up. Doors open at 10PM and remain open until the last person leaves. There is a very strict dress code there, so no gangsters need apply to get in. It's a clean, safe, after-hours party where house and hip hop are equally played.

I haven't mentioned the Red Lion Pub in a while and it is still one of my very most favorite places, so stop by and say hello to them on St. Patty's Day. They'll be celebrating with 20-ounce pints of Harp and Guinness priced at only $4.00, an Irish food menu, including Real Irish Back Bacon (their food is INCREDIBLE!) and of course, Irish Music. Visit their site at www.redlionhouston.com.

Well, it's just not one of my newsletters unless I talk about my three favorite digs, Slainte Irish Pub, the Ruby Room and 6° Lounge (Spec's is probably #4, ha ha ha.) Where will I be on the 17th? At Slainte, of course, all (and I do mean ALL) day and night. Appearing on St. Pat's is Charlie Wemyss. He has been playing live music since 1996 and he attracts a fun crowd of people from 21 up to their 50's in age. His repertoire consists of Classic Rock (Allman Brothers, Eagles, etc.,) Texas Country (Pat Green, Robert Earl Keene, etc.,) College Music (Pat McGee, Jupiter Coyote, Widespread Panic) and General Folk Music (Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, etc.) Charlie has played at the following venues: The Harp, Little Woodrow's (Midtown), and Cahill's. He has performed at Slainte four times, so far, and has gained quite a bit of notoriety in town, so he will be one to watch and you will see more of him in the future. Charlie is a permanent fixture on the last Friday of the month at Slainte, 509 Main. Also on the 17th, Slainte will play host to the Bayou City Bagpipers at 4:30 and the McTeggart Irish Dancers at 5:00. DJ Tommy will be in the Ruby Room upstairs. It's our goal to not only top 2004's St. Patrick's Day as the best place to be this year, but we plan to top Super Bowl 2004 with this year's festivities. We are talking BIG!

6° Lounge at 911 Franklin Street is hot for happy hour. Doors are open Tuesday through Friday from 5-11PM with specials including $2 domestics, $3 wells and $1 off calls. Remember, 6: offers Houston's longest and happiest happy hour in town, so book a party with me soon, just drop me an email at kim@sixdl.com and I can help you organize a memorable event. 6° Lounge will open their doors this Thursday beginning at 5:00PM and showcase an "Irish for a day" theme featuring cool dance vibes from DJ Soul Tower 606. Try Julian Ritchey's award-winning Banana Splitini, which is now featured on the brunch menu at the Sam Houston Hotel. If you are a subscriber to my newsletter, you will receive an invite to the Houston Launch party of Fito's Salsa at 6° Lounge. If you cannot wait until then to try it, you can pick some up at Spec's or at www.fitosalsa.com.

Got Art? On March 19th, from 6:00 until 9:00, before the public is allowed in, all-new and almighty Allan Rodewald art will be unveiled in the first Art Reception hosted by 6°. If you are a subscriber to this newsletter or to www.sixdl.com, you should have already received your VIP invitation via email. If you need to be put on the list to get in without an invite, shoot me an email. The infamous Allan Rodewald is going to be displaying his art at 6° Lounge. Yes, the same guy who gets flown all around the world to produce his art for various businesses and art lovers alike. Yes, the same guy who did all the artwork in downtown's 500,000-gallon aquatic wonderland, The Aquarium. With the recent rekindling of Rodewald's abstract art, everyone is talking about Allan's flare. For a sneak preview check out www.allanrodewald.com, but to see the real deal you will have to witness it for yourself at 6: Lounge. If you think Rodewald's 7 foot by 70 foot mural at City Hall is impressive, just wait until you see what he has brought to 6: Lounge.

Good things come in threes. Thursday, March 24th at 6:00, Ruby Room will play host to TRIFECTA, a night of art, music and fashion featuring the work of three local artists, and after the art show, see Engage 3.0, Houston's "second coming" of the Engines of Elk line. Designer, Tyler Brockington was recently featured on Channel 2 news and in 002 Magazine. See more of what is so hot about his line at www.enginesofelk.com. Trifecta, a combination of canvas, body and soul will prove to be the most exciting Art Reception at the Ruby Room, to date. Artists At Large and Fresh Image will present a visual art show featuring the work of Micah, Mara and Kimberlee. View the art and sip on complimentary champagne from 6-7PM while Micah paints live on canvas, Mara and Kimberlee body paint models, and the Engines of Elk gear up for their fashion show at 9PM. Queen of Clubs subscribers will receive the email invitation this week.

St. Pete's Dancing Marlin at 300 Main Street joins in the party and has driven the snakes out of West Texas and will be serving up their very own St. Patrick's Day special appetizer of rattlesnake. Well, that's one way to drive the snakes out of Ireland. This once-a-year treat is paired with green beer for a hearty Irish meal. Wash those snakes down with live entertainment beginning at 10PM in the Oyster Bar from Kosmic Latte. St. Pete's is open from 11AM to 2AM. For more information, call 713-227-1511.

The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium at 705 Main Street features a festive pub environment for the beer connoisseur, with several television screens to catch your favorite sporting events. Every Monday is "Pint Night," with more than 80 different beers available for $2.50. On Tuesdays, they feature $2.00 well drinks. Wednesday is Brewery Night, beginning at 7PM. Patrons can purchase the beer of the day and keep the pint glass. They'll have a collector's item pint glass on St. Patrick's Day too, and it will go on sale on the 16th at 7PM. Say hi to Jake Rainey, the foxy manager, while you're there. What's going on there for St. Pat's, you ask? The Flying Saucer will open their doors at 11AM on March 17th and feature food and drink specials throughout the entire day. There will be colorful costumed characters, the Flying Saucer Beer Goddess girls, live music from The Handsomes and a Fender guitar raffle drawing at 10PM.

If you make through St. Patty's weekend and still have energy left to go out and party on Monday, then Monday nights play host to Industry Night at the Copa Room. The promotion is presented by George Mendoza of www.nightfunctions.com. It's 21 and up, has drink specials, the DJ plays Old School House and there is no cover charge. Copa Room is at 2416 Brazos, near Red Door, Casa Manhattan, the Dog House Tavern and EVERYONE'S favorite store, Spec's Liquor Warehouse. The Queen thinks George is a cool dude.

Here's a great gift suggestion for your favorite Irish Lass. Yvonne's Floral Delights (281-252-3233 www.y-f-d.com) has a gorgeous arrangement for just $45 available for delivery. Don't miss the next Sundown at the Social on Sunday April 3rd. To be included on my VIP guest list for Sundown, I need your emailed list of names in your group sent to me by March 31st at 5PM. I want to remind everyone that drinking and driving don't mix, so play it safe this St. Patrick's Day and have a designated driver or call a cab. I mean it, leprechauns aren't even lucky enough to avoid a DWI or worse, so why would you be? Finally, click on this link below and help Tania and Josh raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It's a worthy cause, and kudos to the duo for doing their part to make a difference.
