Easter Edition
Did
I hear someone ask "what's cool?" Let's
talk about cool. MERGE is the result of the combined creative
talents
of
Ada Echetebu, Leanna Tran and Susan Diebold. MERGE will soon
host their launch party for the new Houston-based charity,
The Endeavor for Hope Foundation. The Endeavor for Hope Foundation's
focus will be to raise awareness and to generate public support
for socioeconomic initiatives for targeted impoverished communities
in Africa and the Caribbean. The charitable event, along with
MERGE's sexy sophistication, style and culture, will bring
people
together for a pleasurable night of spectacular ambiance, music
and fun. The premiere event takes place in April, details to
be announced soon. You can call 832-443-7294 and contact info@MERGE247.com.
MERGE had a mini-kickoff with a bon-voyage party for Heather
Hughes at 6° Lounge in February. MERGE will be hosting a monthly
party that will cater to a diverse cosmopolitan, glam (not
the silicone type of glam though), cultured, cool, music and
fun-loving
crowd. I'm not the least bit offended by that glam phrase because
I'm a Saline-kind, not silicone-kind of glam, myself. MERGE
will put sophistication on the map, and do it all while fundraising
for a great cause. For more about the Endeavor for Hope go
to
their clickable link at www.i4Hope.org.
Who's hiring? The Flying Saucer is hiring servers who are more
lovingly referred to as Beer Goddesses. Please apply at 708 Main
Street and speak to Jake or Matt. Tell them you heard about it
in the Queen of Clubs newsletter. If you are a strong promoter
or bartender, send me your resume for other venues who are looking
for help.
REMINDER: There is a phenomenal trend in the monthly after-hours
parties hosted by Spoiled Boyz and Beyond Entertainment. With
the most recent being just last weekend at the Grasshopper, March
is lucky enough to play host to a second party. This one will
be one of the biggest parties of the year and it will be held
at M Bar. Rise-up, bang the drums, lift those dancing feet, and
seek SALVATION! Celebrate Easter Morning with a dance party of
the highest magnitude. Late night Saturday, March 26th, BEYOND
Entertainment's Spoiled Boyz produce SALVATION After-Hours at
M Bar, located at 402 Main Street.
Miami's talented Remix Artist/DJ ALYSON CALAGNA will be providing
the rhythms. Live life-raising performance by Dance Music Icon
DYNASTY. There will be an amazing laser light show and reconfigured
sound. Doors open 3:30AM-10:00AM. Advance tickets available at
M2M Fashion on Montrose for $30. A portion of the door proceeds
benefit local HIV/AIDS service organizations. This will be my
first time to help promote and be part of these world-renown
events by Spoiled Boyz. Join me in the wee hours and dance, dance,
dance.
I love Escobar. The bar unveiled its Sunday nights in January
and they are a huge success. Most people there seem to be migrating
over from the Social. The Social gets extremely packed on Sundays,
so after waiting 15 minutes in line just to visit the little
girls' room or being 5 people deep to get a drink at the bar,
some of the crowd rolls over to Escobar. I still love the Social,
especially their Sundown Sunday each month, but Escobar has won
a place in my heart too. I think the perfect Sunday line-up is
to start at Berry Hill, then got to Social and finish the night
at Escobar. Find Escobar at 2905 Travis. Find ME there after
the Sundown at the Social each month.
Zia
Ahmed is a Houston Event Planner who can book your private
parties for 10-1,000 people at various locations in Houston.
For small parties, he can offer comprehensive packages that include
cover and all of your drinks at different bars or he will provide
the best package deals for larger parties, in the hottest clubs
and bars around town. Just email inquiries to theeventpromoter@yahoo.com.
I also book parties and plan events for more than one venue downtown,
so if I can help you coordinate a corporate or social event or
an unforgettable happy hour party at a pub, club or lounge, email
me for ideas, locations and details at houston_queen_of_clubs@yahoo.com.
My whole life is a party, so planning them is what I do best.
Stay tuned, I'll be working for a few other downtown venues opening
in the near future. For now, my lips are sealed about the surprises
to come.
Here's
a reminder of other informative newsletters and websites in
Houston to get the most up-to-date info on events and nightlife
around town. For cool art events, watch www.spacetaker.org,
www.yalestreetmarket.com, www.mitchandcarolyn.com and www.artvalet.com.
I also discovered www.barstar.com,
recently. Some of my favorites are www.thenightspin.com, www.vinylpimp.com, www.houstonpartyratings.com,
www.clubsinthecity.com, www.cleverleysnewsletter.com, www.77002.com,
www.hsm2.com, www.002mag.com, www.envyhouston.com, www.houstonnetworkingnews.com,
www.gochgazette.com, www.mikelmarketing.com,
www.thehoustoneventslist.com and
Mike Rosen's list (email miker11@sbcglobal.net for
a free subscription.) I also really enjoy a new one put out
by Blu
Image. To subscribe to Image News, email bluimage@houston.rr.com.
If you know of any others, please let me know. I love citysearch.com too,
as a great source of information. I recommend you visit all
your favorite bar, restaurant and club websites and sign
yourself up on their lists to receive their invitations for
special events. You can see an extensive list of all your favorite
places on www.citysearch.com,
which includes links to the venues' websites. I got an email
from the creators of www.clubratingz.com,
and I will write a little more about the site in the April
15th issue. Watch the Houston Press each week to see what's
happening in the night scene around town and always read the
Nightfly in the Houston Press. He is hilarious and I'm a
huge Nightfly fan!
BOOZE
NEWS: Starbucks ROCKS with their newest addition, Starbucks Coffee
Liqueur. The advertising has been
everywhere, but the
proof is in the tasting. It's Heaven in a glass. Grab a bottle
and try a Mochatini. The recipe for it goes like this, Starbucks
Coffee Liqueur, DeKuyper Dark Crhme de CaCao, and Absolute Vanilla
Vodka. Oh la la! Bottoms up! Also, might I recommend the "Old
Fart" line of wines that are available at Spec's? Don't
you just love the name "Old Fart?" They are all priced
right and perfect for a casual picnic or boozing it up around
the pool soaking up the sun with your friends and neighbors.
The name is a great conversation starter, too, because we all
have at least one funny story about an old person (a.k.a. Old
Fart) we have encountered.
NEWS
IN THE BIZ: Jaysen Clark turned 30 last month and celebrated his birthday
at the Social with a party
that was overflowing
with beautiful people. Even at 30, Jaysen is still as handsome
as ever. A word to the wise, DO NOT PARK at Cosmo's when you
go to the Social, you will, without a doubt, get towed. We
were safe in the Hickory Hollow lot, however, we saw at least
four wreckers towing cars from the Cosmo's lot when we left.
A "high five" goes out to John Zotos, Joe Martin,
Stuart Folb, Gina Rotolo and Jacqui Hooker who did an incredible
job with the DEDA (deda.org) festivities on St. Patty's Day.
It was a huge success. It's time to prepare for my birthday
in May. Mark your calendar for a weekend filled with celebrations,
May 20th-22nd, details to follow. Shadow Bar (old Paesanos
spot) hosted a soft-opening on March 12th and Glo Club, 507
Main, opened for a sneak preview on March 17th. Gina Rotolo
has departed from Elmore Public Relations to create Gina Rotolo
Public Relations. If you need her MAAAAH-velous services, contact
832-368-6233 or gdrotolo@yahoo.com. Congrats to Trey Warren
who works for LBX Lighting and was the representative for Slainte,
and the winner, in the Second Annual Sexy Kilt contest at Brian
O'Neill's. Juicy scoopwhat gorgeous downtown venue recently
exchanged its current owner for a new owner? Don't ask me,
it's a secret for now.
