First and
foremost, anyone who says those Frozen Apple Martinis at the
Belvedere don't have any alcohol in themis
a liar.
I attended the Houston Networking News Second Anniversary party
www.houstonnetworkingnews.com last week at the gorgeous Belvedere
in Uptown Park. Friends Liz, Cherin, Lisa, Christie and Patricia
and myself sipped on a few of the frozen concoctions offered
at 1131-01 Uptown Park Boulevard. Another friend of mine, Tammie,
reported the martinis were "lethal" (her exact word.)
So, a word to the wise; these are MARTINIS, people, NOT Slurpees.
Drink with caution because they sneak up on you. The event
was a smashing success and if you haven't been to the Belvedere
in a while, you need to get back there and remind yourself
why it (along with Escobar, the Red Door and 6° Lounge)
was one of the four venues nominated for best place to 'see
and
be seen' in the recent Ultimate of Houston awards from the
Chronicle, see www.chron.com. Results will be published in
mid-September of all the prestigious winners. For those of
you who voted for 6° in the three categories we were nominated
in, thank you! A million times, THANK YOU! Also, congrats goes
out to Mike and R.D. of HNN for a successful event and a successful
two years. It was "APPLE-solutely" a ton of fun and
the service was supreme!
I'd like to issue a formal apology for some misinformation I
had on the 6° web site. I had listed the pre-RENT party hosted
by MERGE as taking place at 6° on Saturday the 27th, however,
I had not confirmed that before I posted it and it will not
take place. MERGE recently hosted a grand party called TEMPTATION
and the divas also hosted a pre-RENT party here in June, but
there will not be a pre-RENT party this month. I'd hate for
MERGE fans to come out and be disappointed that the MERGE-ettes
will not be here, so I'm sorry for the incorrect information.
RENT will, of course, take place this Saturday at the Meridian,
1503 Chartres, so definitely make plans to attend. Hugs to
Ada, Sushi, Johnathan and Little Martin, and my sincerest apologies
for the goof.
I recently ran into Dan Krohn (www.krohnlaw.com) at 6° Lounge.
Dan is a primary care attorney for entrepreneurs, and his business
card reads Attorney/Philosopher. Any entertainers out there
who might need an attorney, he's your man, as he is a whiz
in entertainment law. He's also my friend, which I think makes
him mighty cool.
I have another cool friend who has fourteen Rolling Stones tickets
for sale. Here's the list and if you are seriously interested
in purchasing tickets from him, email me at kim@sixdl.com and
I will forward you the info for who has them. Four in Section
119-Row 20-Seat 1,2,3,4-$850.00 each. Two in Section 119-Row-21-Seats
7,8-$850.00 each. Four in Section 104-Row-10-Seats 1,2,3,4-$350.00
each. Four in Section 429-Row-4-Seats 9,10,11,12-$350 each.

There should
be no more whining about parking prices downtown, because there
is now a program that makes parking FREE! The Downtown
Entertainment District Alliance's Validated Parking Program is
now available every Friday and Saturday night. www.DEDA.org is
pleased to announce the new Validated Parking Program. The program,
was created in response to your concerns about difficulty in
finding safe, affordable parking around the area. It doesn't
get more affordable than FREE! Here's how it works: park in either
of these two parking garages: Market Square Parking Garage 300
Milam (across from Market Square Park, in the Kim Son building)
or in the Chase Parking Garage at 600 Travis. You will pay $5
to enter and park, but you get $5 back when you get to the bars.
You will receive a list of participating venues that will validate
the $5 fee with a credit on your food or drink tab or a cash
rebate. Participating venues in the parking program include St.
Pete's Dancing Marlin, Opus, M Bar, El Centro, Grasshopper, Shadow
Bar, Visions, Flying Saucer, Slainte, Ruby Room, Mia Bella, Cava
Bistro, Sambuca, 6° Lounge, 306 Main and Frank's Pizza. To see
more about the promotion, please go to: http://www.enflyer.com/s/v?ib=1728;119194;269814;-1;97566;13626.

"Pardon me, may we use your restroom?" If
someone asks you that, it could be Dustin Kalman with InSite
Advertising.
InSite Advertising is an indoor advertising company placing advertising
in the restrooms of bars, clubs and restaurants. They also place
unique illuminated advertising behind the bar, which can help
increase sales. The best part of it all is InSite pays you to
use the space. You can earn extra revenue by leasing your wall
space to InSite and as an added bonus, their advertisers occasionally
provide bars with free branded essentials, like coasters, matches
etc. Check out our foxy bathroom media from InSite at 6° Lounge.
I'm pretty proud of it. Contact Dustin Kalman through e-mail
at dkalman@alloymarketing.com if you're interested in this for
your establishment and make sure to let him know the Queen sent
you.

Brian McManus, a.k.a. the Houston Press's Nightfly and Filthy
McNasty to those who know and love him, is moving to Philadelphia.
I want to wish him and his wife, Mrs. McNasty, all the success
in the world. He has made me laugh every week for the last year
with his Nightfly antics. The Press is now searching for a new
Nightfly. Brian will be a tough act to follow. I've been toying
with the idea of sending in writing samples and applying for
the position, but I need some more courage. If you can send me
some confidence-building emails and if the ad is still in next
week's Houston Press then I will do just that; apply for the
spot. What do you all think? Should I apply?
The DISCO BALL is at Opus (412 Main) this Saturday, the 27th.
70's attire is suggested. Special thanks to Opus for being
a loyal QOC newsletter sponsor. I encourage all of you readers
to click on our sponsor boxes on the left side of this newsletter
and sign up on the sponsors' web sites to receive notices for
events and VIP offerings. I also encourage you to visit the
venues listed, and have a fantastic time while you're there.
I always do!
THIS
WEEK AT 6°: I felt a small special was in order to celebrate the
fact we were nominated for best happy hour (and I am eagerly
waiting to see, in mid-September, if we are the winner) in
the Ultimate Houston Awards from the Chronicle. As a limited
time offer, if you book a happy hour party with me during August
and September, all of your guests who arrive between 5-8PM
on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of your choice, will receive
a complimentary first cocktail at your event. To book your
happy hour, call 713-228-2990 or email kim@sixdl.com. 6° Lounge,
911 Franklin, is also home to Houston's longest happy hour
than spans a full 6 hours. Come see our new happy hour bartender,
Marissa. Everyone loves Marissa.
NEWS
IN THE BIZ: I hope Dennis doesn't hand out flyers for Mantra/Ice
in 6° Lounge anymore. That's not very nice, Dennis. I have
a tiny crush on C.R. at Ultra and I think Eric is a GOD (I
saw him without a shirt) and I want to marry Denver. Go see
all of those boys at Ultra (108 Main.) Kelly Richard is booking
parties now for Ultra. She's so lucky to work with all those
guys! A big thank you goes out to Steve Devadanam with the
velvety Barry White voice, from the Houston Press for the splendid
article about the recent Martini Mix-off competition. The next
Mix-off will be on November 3rd. Amanda Mora is now an 8minutedating.com
event planner. The new SHIFT promotion on Thursdays is a super-colossal
hit and the Sexy Shoe Club (SSC rules!) also meets at 6° every
Thursday night. You can see the SHIFT animated invitation designed
by Houston's sexiest Pink-Mohawked doorman and graphic designer,
Brian Durand, at this link sixdl.com/main.html. Turntables
on the Hudson has a cool web site and even COOLER events at
the Social, 3730 Washington at Yale. You can get the full scoop
at http://www.turntablesonthehudson.com/. Thanks to Kim and
Stacey from Erotic Cabaret for coordinating the Fashion Show
at 6° last week. It was great to see Ziggy Morrow, owner of
the Flat (it's new at 1701 Commonwealth,) Glenn Scott (Industry
Magazine,) Kristen Fortenberry and Celise Keller (Mix-off winner!)
from Slainte and the Ruby Room, Stephanie Talafuse (Premiere
Promotions) and Goddess Kathryn Lott (Society for Performing
Arts) at the show. Also in the house were Rick Polendo (Mia
Bella, downtown) Promoter Rev Frederick, Steve Vazquez (Absolut
Spirits Company) Arthur Garcia (Select Studios,) John Pruett
(Independent Distillers,) Forrest deSpain (Grasshopper) and
our Fashion Models Macy, Rayne and Marissa were here and were
HOT! Thank you to Houston Modern Luxury Magazine for coming
out to cover the party. I look forward to the pictures and
article in the next issue.
Just a few more ramblings before I sign off until next week.
I keep getting stuck in traffic on the feeder road in the 1400
block of the West Loop and I'd like to request a new Abercrombie
and Fitch billboard over there. I'm not a huge fan of blonde
men, especially that one on the billboard, with his outtie
belly button. He's a little young for my taste, too. I've sampled
quite a few products recently from the South Beach Diet Line
by Kraft Foods (http://www.kraftfoods.com/south_beach_diet)
and I was amazed at how delicious they were. I'm not kidding
you! I love the two varieties of refrigerated wrap kits that
I've tried so far, which are a meal packaged for us folks who
are always on the go (only $2.98 at Wal-Mart.) I have nibbled
on the Ham and Turkey Club and the Grilled Chicken Caesar wraps
and both were scrumptious! I've also tried the cranberry almond
cereal bars (yum-yum) and the Meal Replacement Bars in Cinnamon
and Crhme and Chocolate Crisp were tasty, as well. Try this
stuff, everybody!
