Volume Two, Edition Twenty-Eight

If you would like to become a sponsor with either a logo ad at $29 or a line ad of your business click here. Your logo or line name of your business will be linked to a web form allowing readers of the newsletter to subscribe to your email list! It is a great way to network your business with new potential customers.

Look, people, work with me here. Stop your bitching about who didn't do what they were supposed to do in a crisis and do what YOU are supposed to do in a crisis and HELP! I'm sick and DAMN tired of all the pointing the fingers at who didn't prepare or fix the problems quick enough after Hurricane Katrina. Just HELP! You can blame it on whomever you chose to afterwards, but stop wasting time on the griping and invest that time on volunteering, will you, please? For me? There are families, pets, businesses, FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS, who NEED us right now, so do your part and quit mouthing off. Sorry for the outburst, but it needs to be addressed. Look into your heart and do what you can do to help these people. I have BAWLED and cried harder than I ever did after my worst break-up, when I have watch the news, or Oprah, or Inside Edition, or anything on TV, for that matter. Our bar has donated 10% of sales two Thursdays in a row to the victims. People are not coming downtown because they've heard it's dangerous. Well, let me tell you, I walked downtown on Saturday, September 10th and counted TWELVE cops on Main Street. It's as safe as safe can be. Let's continue helping our friends from Louisiana, but let's go on living our lives and be grateful, thankful, and APPRECIATIVE that this wasn't Texas! Enough said. I hope to see all of you downtown again this week. It's safe, and parking is now FREE on the weekends (see paragraph further down in this newsletter for details.)

THIS WEEK AT 6°: So many pets were displaced from their owners during Hurricane Katrina, so Soleil Manzo and myself are hosting a benefit called "Hair of the Dog." The fortunate ones were transferred to the Houston SPCA. They need our help with dog and cat food, so we are hosting this benefit to help provide for the more than 900 animal victims of Hurricane Katrina. The SPCA opened their doors to 263 canines and felines from the Louisiana SPCA before the storm hit and now they have accepted animals from evacuees at the Houston Astrodome, Reliant Arena and George R. Brown Convention Center, anticipating hundreds, if not thousands, more in the coming weeks. 6° Lounge will generously provide a complimentary drink if you bring pet food or a monetary donation for the SPCA to this party, and happy hour prices will be until 11PM. Please forward the invitation to others and join us on Wednesday. If you can't attend, please click to www.houstonspca.org to see how you can help. Hope to see you on the 14th! Both Soleil and myself have sent out evites, and the response is overwhelming, but my favorite so far was this one, from one of my favorite people on the planet, as well as being a former boss of mine. Before you read it, let me tell you he is a foxy bartender at Sliders on Westheimer, so go see him and give him props (and tips) for being a hell of a good Samaritan. He's Mark-Eric Cerda and I'm even more proud to be his friend now that I read this: Hey Kimmie, I love you and I wish I could make it. But you know I'm working just as hard as you are!! Please accept a donation of $50 in your name from me to the SPCA. I find what you are doing honorable, compassionate, and heroic. I love the fact that you are my friend! Unconditional love for you, and give Soleil my best! Aaganamedaag! Peace, M-E. The infamous Nell Russell will be bartending that fundraiser and she is everyone's favorite!

What free weekly publication has Coffee in its name, is printed on coffee-colored paper and is delivered in coffee shops (and other eateries) but is actually NOT about Coffee? It's Coffee News, of course! This little coffee-colored, neighborhood-based newspaper is being distributed by different publishers in 23 neighborhoods in and around the greater Houston area, and it provides fun, family-friendly entertainment while people wait for their food or their friends in restaurants, coffee shops, delis, etc. It was designed to be an affordable, category-exclusive advertising venue for small to medium-sized businesses. In addition to community news about area non-profits and events, quotable quotes, puns and horoscopes, each issue of Coffee News also contains a "Find the Coffee News Guy" contest that allows readers the opportunity to win $100 if they can find a very small version of him hidden in one of the ads. For those readers just determined to get their caffeine jolt, visit www.houstoncoffeenews.com to read coffee-related trivia, poetry and recipes. Those interested in advertising should call 713-460-4117 and ask for the special "queenly" rates exclusive to Queen of Clubs readers only. And, for those restaurants owners that aren't providing this fun publication for their patrons, well shame on you! You're missing out on some publicity opportunities because the publisher of Coffee News Metro Houston (a UH and UoP alumni) has several inventive ways to promote your establishment. Find out TODAY!

This is an idea that could save your life, and it was sent to me by Keith Tyler. Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE. ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do. Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.

NEWS IN THE BIZ: Visit www.noahleans.com to see how you can help displaced musicians find gigs and relief here in Houston. Kat Rittinghouse of www.icon-magazine.com told me that NOAH has emphatically stated that they are not in the business of fundraising. They are seeking IMMEDIATE assistance to get displaced musicians back to work. Johan (w/ NOAH) advised Kat that they are setting up accounts for donations. What they need is either donated, borrowed equipment for musicians, lodging assistance and goods to help get these people back on their feet. Riz Entertainment, Inc. is hiring, so for more info please go to: www.rizentertainment.net. We have a new little sassy, redheaded waitress from England at 6° named Melissa, but she hates to be called Melissa, so call her Mel or Mac, and do not get in her waitress ordering area or she turns into a pit-bull. Anyway, come meet her, because she is a keeper! September 22nd will be our CD release party at 6° for our very own Brandon Silva and the world's most bad-ass fashion show from Erotic Cabaret (choreographed by Bella Productions, I might add,) so please be here or you will hate hearing "you should have been there" from all of your friends.
