Let’s cut right to the chase, next month is Cinco de Mayo,
Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and most importantly, MY BIRTHDAY!
While I am thrilled about those big days, it’s April and
I have OODLES of news about places and events that are just around
the corner, still to come this month. Oh, and by the way, my
birthday is May 27th, in case you are wondering and my party
will be on June 8th, so stayed tuned for the 411. Save the dates
for Cyclone Anaya’s (309 Gray) first annual Cincofest!
It is a party so big it spans two days and will spill over into
Midtown Park, across the street, so plan to attend on May 2nd
and 3rd.
QUEEN
RANT: If Midtown had a Mayor, I would run for the position, but since
there is not a Mayor of Midtown, what I’d really
like to do is campaign about manners. Think to yourself for a
minute, “Am I really being a responsible bar patron as
well as keeping myself safe when I go out in Midtown?” Here
are some quick tips for those of us that travel the roads and
haunts of Midtown. Remember, Midtown is unique unto itself because
there are houses and apartments almost everywhere and right outside
of those residents’ front doors are many front doors to
bars and restaurants. Love the neighborhood, but do it with consideration
of the neighbors. Be conscientious about noises that might wake
sleeping residents. This includes yelling down the street at
3AM, car alarms, slamming car doors and even fighting. In general,
refrain from doing things that you wouldn’t want someone
to do outside your bedroom window.
You don’t want the karma of your actions to follow you
home because you eventually want to sleep and you know about
karma, “what comes around goes around,” so if you
would frown upon it being done in your yard, why on earth would
you do it in someone else’s yard when you are in Midtown?
A piece of advice to the ladies and maybe even a few guys out
there from the Queen, leave the Prada bag at home or carry it
with you and don’t leave it in the car. It not only screams “I
am expensive,” but purses in unattended cars have been
known to scream “break in and steal me” as well.
I recommend you use Valet Parking wherever it is offered. Valet
is like voting; do it early and do it often. Valet parkers always
manage to have access to spots we civilians do not have access
to. A word to the wise, ask what time the valet leaves or you
might be out of luck when you return to retrieve your vehicle.
For example, the valets at Cyclone Anaya’s close when the
restaurant closes and it is clearly posted on their key stand.
Just be aware of what time is vital to return to your car if
it’s at a restaurant rather than bar-hopping until 2AM
and returning to a closed restaurant with no way to get your
keys and car. Finally, and I cannot believe I should even have
to mention this one, but due to some less-than-stellar judgment
calls people can sometimes make when intoxicated, I feel the
need to remind you that peeing in public is not only unacceptable
behavior but it is against the law. How would you like being
ticketed and fined for peeing in public? That wouldn’t
make you too “hap-PEE,” I would guess. It’s
a relief to know those policemen in Midtown are there to keep
the public safe but they also write tickets for relieving yourself
in public. Refrain from that action, my kittens. The Queen doesn’t
condone public pee-ers!

Attention all food lovers, next Thursday brings two big events.
The first is Dining Out for Life. On Thursday, April 24th, restaurants
across Houston, and America, will unite in the fight against
HIV/AIDS. Each restaurant will generously donate 33% of food
bills all day long towards AFH. AFH supports thousands of people
infected and affected by HIV and AIDS by providing services such
as housing, case management, and food assistance for nearly 5,000
HIV+ men, women, and children. Help raise much needed funds for
many who are in need by simply lifting your fork! Be among the
thousands of conscientious individuals across North American
who gather their family and friends, and dine out at one of the
participating restaurants. Over 50 Houston-area restaurants are
participating in the event. Click to www.diningoutforlife.com/houston/participating for the complete list of restaurants and do your part simply
by dining out on Thursday April 24th.
Secondly,
the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce presents

for all foodies. With a mouth-watering selection of tastes from
numerous restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, and other food
and beverage providers from the Greater Southwest Houston area,
the event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Over 1,200
attendees are expected to join in the delicious fun this year.
Taste participants will showcase samples of signature dishes
while sharing behind-the-scenes scoop and genuine culinary enthusiasm.
In addition to tasting, attendees can vote for their favorite
contributors, enjoy live entertainment and participate in a silent
auction and raffle. Best Taste is a casual, dine-around event.

newsletter sponsor, Houston Single Source and is called the Wingman/Wingwoman
party at Fox Sports Grill (5175 Westheimer, in the Galleria)
in Friday April 25th from 7-11PM. Wingman (noun) - A Wingman

appetizers, two happy hours (yes, two!) and plenty of fun and
wingmen. There is free parking on the second floor garage. Plus,
you might just win one of the prizes with wings and float away

with a Southwest Airlines certificate. This event is free for
