I have a new “assistant editor” a tiny kitten, rescued from a sewer. Her name is Bagby, named for the street where she was rescued. You should know, if you have read my newsletter at any point in time since its inaugural issue in September 2004, that I am an animal lover. I own SIX pets, so don’t bring me strays because I am at my limit and cannot afford another pet deposit. However, I will direct you to rescue organizations that have open doors if you need homes for rescues, so please contact me at houston_queen_of_clubs@yahoo.com or 832-885-7274 for the 411. Looking for a rescued Yorkshire Terrier to adopt? Contact Linda Freedman at linsyorkies@yahoo.com or visit the website at www.yorkiehavenrescue.org.

NEWS IN THE BIZ: Chris at Roc Bar reports that every Thursday night he is doing an acoustic showcase featuring various local artists. The night has a mix of covers and originals and doors open at 10PM. DJ Synplisity, who was the DJ at my recent birthday party is now the Wednesday and Thursday resident DJ at Sansones (14144 Westheimer near Briar Green.) I’d like to extend a special thanks to Michael, J.J. and the bartenders at Bronx Bar Galleria (2670 Sage) for a phenomenal birthday party. Congrats to them on the upcoming grand opening of Bronx Bar #3 on Washington Avenue.

Mak Chins is doing a Wednesday Happy Hour from 3PM-6:30PM where you can enjoy $3 martinis along with massages and manicures. Check out their cool website at makchins.com and then check out their Wednesday Happy Hour.

SAVE THE DATE: Plan ahead if you are single, so you can look for applicants and conduct interviews for your next romance at a speed-dating event for single professionals on Saturday, July 19th. The event will be hosted by one of my favorite haunts, where I just so happen to book events, at the Flat (1701 Commonwealth.) Hear ye, hear ye, come all single women between the ages of 28-40 and men between ages 30-42. You must pre-register at ASAP online, because spaces are limited. Visit www.Cupid.com/PreDating or you may contact Peggy, the Houston Event Coordinator at 626-261-0849 or email her at houston@predating.com.

Did some say “the Flat?” Be there for Sideways Tuesdays, a concept now running over two years strong with DJ Drew from 9PM-2AM. Join the Flat this Saturday, June 28th where, and I PROMISE, it will be packed to the gills for “House Family Summer Reunion with Champa Moore.” I am foaming at the mouth just thinking of it. Champa is one of my all time fave DJs who now resides in New York but blesses Houston with a visit to the Flat on occasion. This is one of the occasions so be there or cry later and I will say “I told you that you should have been there!”

The Meridian will present on Thursday, June 26th Dubfire and D:Fuse. Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia, one half of the Grammy Award-winning and four-time nominated electronic music duo Deep Dish, joined forces with Global Underground for the release of his first solo mix album Dubfire GU31 - Taipei. The 2-CD mix set is a sweeping change from anything you would have previously expected to hear from the Deep Dish member and it features the finest in house, electro, techno, and even industrial music. Growing up in the Washington, DC area, Dubfire spent much of his youth playing the guitar in school bands and listening to heavy doses of classic Hip-Hop, jazz/rare groove, dub reggae, new wave and industrial. Dubfire discovered the Chicago house scene and what labels like Trax and D.J. International Records were releasing. Want to know more? Tickets can be purchased thru www.ticketsmaster.com or www.groovetickets.com Scoopage will be discovered at myspace.com/33and3rd or 33and3rd.com.

Same night, different event is Mid-Summer Night Party where you get to heat things up with Houston Single Source as we descend upon Houston's hottest new venue: Citizen Lounge on Washington, Thursday, June 26th. With the weather this steamy, the only thing left to do is enjoy icy cocktails with hundreds of the coolest people in town. HSS has even recruited Citizen's hottest bartenders to give a private cocktail concocting class - yep! Mix your own summer drinks. The third week in June is traditionally midsummer. The ancient Celts believed you could find buried treasure on Midsummer's by studying the way the moonbeams fell. Why not study cocktail making instead and make some great friends while you're at it! Proper attire required: No flip flops or shorts! This is a special night and Houston Single Source wants you to be a part of it! 6-10PM Citizen Lounge (4606 Washington.) This event is free for members and $15 for non-members. For more information or to RSVP, please visit www.HoustonSingleSource.com.
