Happy August, nightlife kittens! I’ve got a lot of news that’s “purr-worthy” about happenings around town. There is still a month left of Summer, so soak up as much fun and sun as you can and enjoy yourselves. You can enjoy yourself with ME this Friday, because I am hosting a happy hour party at Open City Bistro (2416 Brazos) on August 8th at 6PM. Everyone is welcome to meet me there. Haven’t been there before? Check out their website at www.ochouston.com. People are really talking about OC! To see some reviews on www.citysearch.com about Open City, click this link:

Want to “paint the town red” with DJ Red, 2008 Best DJ winner of the Houston Press Music Awards? The queen knows where to find him. Monday nights are Service Industry Night at Vintage (Kipling at Shepherd) and DJ Red is in the mix. Bond (2700 Milam) is still going strong with their Pimpslapped Tuesday promotion and DJ Red is part of the reason that night is such a success. Bottle reservations for Tuesdays at Bond are available by sending a text to Joe Applewhite at 713-291-5270. On Thursdays, DJ Red is at Saez and Zouk (old Hue locale at 202 Tuam.) I have not been to this spot yet, but I certainly hope it is more exciting than their website which is one page with five photos and address and phone number and that is all. I also think the outside of the property is not nearly as pretty as Hue was now that it’s painted white. Visit the website, drive by or even go to the club and let me know what you think. The website and exterior just are not enough to make me to want to go there. On Saturdays, dance to Red’s beats at Pandora’s Box (1815 Washington) then get more of DJ Red that same night at Rich’s (2401 San Jacinto) for after hours.

NEWS IN THE BIZ: Sarah Diab is the new Marketing and Events Director for Open City Bistro, Pandora’s Box and Zeppelin Lounge (3101 San Jacinto, myspace.com/zeppelin713, zeppelin713.net.) Mary Whitted, sexy blonde bartending bombshell (formerly of Rich’s and Bond) is now at Cyclone Anaya’s in midtown at 309 Gray. Be the first to answer this trivia question by emailing me at houston_queen_of_clubs@yahoo.com with “answer” in the subject line and you can win a free Fox & Hound party for 10-20 guests that includes free wings, chips and salsa, spicy chicken billiard strips and 2 hours of free pool. The question is “What is the name of the hockey player who is nicknamed the Great One?” Mondays are Industry Night at the Tipsy Clover with $2 beers and $4 stoli, tuaca or jager shots. La Mesa and Gibson’s Steak House will be opening downtown in October, stayed tuned for information about the grand opening of both restaurants.

The House of Blues is scheduled to open in October and will be located at the corner of Caroline and Dallas Streets in downtown Houston. The House of Blues venue will encompass approximately 43,000 square feet and will house a multi-level music hall featuring national and local live entertainment, state-of-the-art sound and lighting, a seated balcony, private box seats, a restaurant and bar, the private-membership club Foundation Room and dedicated special events space.

Where ART thou? If you like photography, then click to www.midtowninfocus.com as soon as you finish reading this month’s newsletter for a fabulous opportunity to show off your photographs. Also in the art world, Bering and James Gallery (805 Rhode Place #500) will launch their CINCO bash on Saturday, August 16th from 6-8PM, with the show running until August 31st. For further details click to www.beringandjames.com. 002 Magazine is accepting entries for the December holiday cover, for the dish on the contest email covercontest@002mag.com. Speaking of covers, congrats to my friend (who I never get to see any more because she is always doing photo shoots) Sarah Bindhammer for her recent beautiful pictures in OutSmart and 002 magazines.

The Mosaic High-Rise on Hermann Park will play host to the Envy Magazine Issue Release Party this month (IRP #55) on Saturday, August 16th at Mosaic (5925 Almeda Road) from 8PM until midnight. The event will also feature complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/envyhouston or call 713-528-ENVY to RSVP.

Celebrate Love Italian Style right here in Houston while all the Europeans flock to scenic Positano high above the Amalfi Coast, wouldn't you rather spend your last days of summer with Houston Single Source? Join HSS on August 22nd and converge upon the Hot Italian Standard known as La Strada. That's amore, alright! La Strada (322 Westheimer) has a great patio overlooking Lower Westheimer - so join hundreds of Houston-area singles and take in the view - besides, with two stories, there's a lot of restaurant to enjoy and a lot of people to meet. The event will be from 6-10PM and is free for members and $15 for non-members. For more information or to RSVP, please visit www.HoustonSingleSource.com, email RSVP@HoustonSingleSource.com or call 713-630-0546.

It’s not too early to start planning your holiday events. I am the Catering Coordinator for Cyclone Anaya’s Mexican Kitchen and we are eager to cater your holiday parties at either your home or office and I am now booking for December. I can even provide you with references from our existing clients. I invite you to take a look at our menu posted on our brand new website, click to http://cycloneanaya.com/menu.htm and together, we can customize a menu perfectly suited to the needs of your guests for your next event. Call me at 832-885-7274 or you can email me at catering@cycloneanayas.net. Did you know aside from the three locations in Houston, there is now a huge Cyclone Anaya’s in Dallas (3211 Oak Lawn Avenue at Hall Street) that opened in March? A second Dallas location should open by early September at 5225 Beltline Road, just East of the Dallas North Tollway.

If you aren’t able to make my Happy Hour at Open City this Friday, don’t fret because I’ll be hosting another one next month, at the Flat, so stay tuned for the date and details in my next edition. Also, join me for the “Woman to Woman” pre-Halloween fashion show and party at Erotic Cabaret Boutique (1222 Westheimer) which will feature a fashion show of sexy costumes for men and women along with other treats for party attendees. This event is open to both men and women and will take place from 6-10PM on September 12th, so save the date.
