I
guess God wanted a pet in Heaven, so he chose the best dog
on earth, MINE. I lost my dog, Marlee Keegan Coyne, on August
25th. I had her since she was five weeks old, when she was
just a bundle of black fur that fit in my hand. She was a ray
of sunshine in my world every single day. I’d
like to thank Dr. Loy Spargo and the staff at Gulf Coast Animal
Emergency Clinic (1111 West Loop South #200) for their compassion
and efforts to save her life. My father is her normal veterinarian
(Dr. Cary W. Coyne) but he was out of town at his country weekend
home and unreachable when all of this hit. For all of you, who
have pets; love them with all you have, every single day, because
they deserve it for all the unconditional love they show you.
My last memory of Marlee was of her hooked up to an. I.V. and
my best friend Teresa Freese and I telling her to be a good girl
for the doctors. She wagged her tail even when she was so sick
she could barely lift her head to get a kiss through the cage,
but she gave Teresa a kiss while I cried. The next day, her heart
failed and she passed away, so instead of me getting to pick
her up at the emergency hospital on Monday to transfer her to
my dad’s clinic, I had to pick up her body for burial.
So, I dedicate this newsletter to the memory of my angelic dog,
Marlee, who was more fun than any nightspot or restaurant than
I’ve ever written about. Those closest to me agree, she
was proof that angels exist on earth, and now she is gone.
Now on to
brighter topics and exciting news about what to do and where
to go this month, but first, a little bit about a “new
man” in my life. A friend moved and could not take her
dog, a darling year-old Dachshund and Jack Russell mix, so – you
guessed it – I adopted him. I had been babysitting him
for a month, so he got to meet Marlee and after her death, it
felt right to adopt him permanently. I named him Chopper and
he rocks. The total animal count at my place remains six with
the addition of Chopper to the menagerie of my cats Freeway,
Ferdie and Bagby (she was rescued from a sewer on Bagby Street
as a kitten,) my hamster, Tiesto and the rescue dog I’ve
had for a year who survived being thrown out of a truck before
I adopted her but is a now a happy, spoiled rotten, thriving
dog, with one leg lost as a result of her abusive past. Life
is good, there’s a lot of shedding around the house, but
life is still really, really good.
I finally
got a chance to visit a popular spot on a Monday, Vintage (2108
Kipling.) If you haven’t been there on a
Monday, you are missing out. It’s Industry Night (service
industry, for those of you who don’t work in the service
biz. “Service” meaning hospitality, bar and restaurant
employee peeps.) If you aren’t service industry, you are
still welcome. The promoters, Joe Applewhite and Mikey G of “in
the know,” have created a masterpiece with their “Mondaze” at
Vintage. I kid you not, it was packed to the max with a hip,
fresh, fun, sexy, beautiful (even the ugly people were still
pretty good looking that night) crowd all swimming in the mix
provided by beat master extraordinaire, DJ Red (the lifeguard
of DANCE, so to speak.) The Queen puts her stamp of approval
and a 5-star recommendation on Mondays at Vintage. I hope to
see you there because I will definitely be back for more when
my crazy work schedule permits.
The first
Friday of the month is always Open House, brought to you by
the East End Boys and Open House has moved to a new location
at Epic (3030 Travis) with DJs Esteban Torres, Alex C and Bobby
Blyss. Cover charge is $5 before 11PM and $10 after 11PM. Open
House is hosted by Frosty the Nightlife Tyrant. I am I am a
gigantic Frosty fan. Make a note to be there on October 3rd,
because trust me when I say everybody who is anybody will be
there dancing their asses off to the filthy, get sweaty and
don’t even mind because it’s
so damn GOOD, house music that only this trio is capable of.
Their talent gives me goose pimples! Also coming to Epic next
month is World-renown DJ Icey, from Orlando, Florida, (myspace.com/djicey)
on October 17th.
I am planning
a get-together with friends at Bond Lounge (2700 Milam) on
Tuesday, September 9th around 11:00PM, so if anyone wants to
meet us out, well, that’s where we’ll be.
Most of Houston has already been to Bond (myspace.com/bondlounge and bond2700.com) but if you happen to be one of the few that
has not, what are you waiting for? Tuesdays are especially hot
with promoter, Joe Applewhite, who has the “Midas Touch” when
it comes to ensuring a golden good time in some of the most popular
nightspots in Houston. Tuesdays are “Pimpslapped Tuesdays” with
$5 drinks, DJ Red (Houston Press Best DJ, 3 years running,) Go-Go
Dancers and Houston’s glam crowd, so stop by next Tuesday
and look for me to say hello and we can do a shot together.
I
am hosting another FANTABULOUS event at Erotic Cabaret Boutique
(1222 Westheimer) on Friday, September 12th from 6:00PM until
about 10ish. If you missed the two previous parties I helped
plan at one of my favorite stores, shame on you. Erotic Cabaret
is one of my top friends on myspace.com (see myspace.com/houstonqueenofclubs and add me and Erotic Cabaret Boutique if we aren’t already
friends) This Halloween Extravaganza is themed “The SEXIEST
Show on Earth” adapted from
the circus known as “the Greatest Show on Earth,” but
with a very sexy twist featuring male and female models in sexy
costumes sold at the boutique along with cocktails and “aphrodi-snacks” from
Nooky’s Bakery and Cyclone Anaya’s. As always, there
will be door prizes and giveaways all night so come in and get
your shop on for your Halloween Costumes and other nifty goodies
the store sells. The after-party that night will be at Bronx
Bar in Rice Village on Morningside where we will all get our
DANCE on! Please join us.

As I’ve mentioned before, the Houston Museum of Natural
Science is one of the Queen’s favorite places to explore
in Houston. My dad and I enjoy the museums in our city several
times a year. A sequel to one of my all-time favorite exhibits,
BODY WORLDS, is opening called Gunther von Hagens’ BODY
WORLDS 2 and the BRAIN. This exhibit includes more than 200 human
body specimens, including more than 20 whole bodies preserved
through a remarkable process called Plastination. The exhibition
includes a special feature highlighting neuroscience, brain development
and function, brain disease and disorders and brain performance
and improvement. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about
your body and brain and they way it functions. I am anxious to
see if there is an A.D.D. brain to see what mine looks like since
I am truly the spokes-model for A.D.D. and live with it daily.
Bayou City
Outdoors is hosting a Meet and Greet event for you to see what
BCO is all about and meet their members. This free event is
on Wednesday, September 24th from 6:00 – 8:00PM
at Taco Milagro (2555 Kirby.) For more details call 713-524-3567
or click www.bayoucityoutdoors.com.
From time
to time, I throw in a little 411 about a restaurant, so here
goes: often between shifts at Cyclone Anaya’s,
I like a change of scenery to give me a little break between
lunch and dinner shifts. By now you should know I am a server
at Cyclone Anaya’s midtown and when you come to eat there,
please request me to be your server because I will make it the
best dining experience you’ve ever had. Anyway, I like
Terlingua at 920 Studemont. I frequent the place with one of
my best friends, Yesabel Salazar (who, by the way, trained me
as a server at Cyclone Anaya’s.) Yesabel has also worked
for Terlingua, so she and I both feel at home there. General
Manager, Omar Perez, always has a hug for us and finds the time
to visit our table to make sure we have what we need. Pedro Gomes
the sexy Portuguese bartender takes care of us when we eat there,
so tell him I sent you. He works weekday lunch shift. I recommend
the Ranch Hand Ribeye and the Gulf Tacos.
YAP
(yapclub.com/houston/)
is hosting an Opening Reception of the Young Ambassador's Kick
off Project with featured Artist Ben Tecumseh DeSoto, whose
work in entitled "Understanding
Poverty" on Thursday, September 25th at The DiverseWorks
venue at 1117 Eastex Freeway. YAP is a free organization of Young
Active Professionals with over 2,400 Houston members. The group
hosts social events, trips (next one is January 2009, so visit
the site for details) and outings for members to network, meet
people and enjoy new friends. The dress code for this event is
business casual and there will be drinks, appetizers and great
networking. YAP is a FREE website for young professionals in
their 20s, 30s and early 40s. They offer member hosted events,
profiles, forums, nightlife and entertainment guides as well
as reviews of Houston restaurants, bars, night clubs and other
venues. The YAP site is about making friends and both singles
and couples are welcome. YAP is a very friendly group and the
activities make it easy to come out, meet new people and get
involved. The Queen has been a member for several years. To get
to the event on the 25th, click www.diverseworks.org/index.php?pgid=11.
My little red-headed Bronx Bar Marketing Vixen, Rae Millican
has planned an Astros bash before and after the game at both
locations on Thursday, September 25th. Click here for directions
to either the Rice Village or Galleria location http://www.thebronxbar.com/directions-2.html.
Bronx Bar has purchased 50 tickets to the Astros game that night.
The Bronx Bar VIPs will be given the tickets and will be riding
the party bus to the game. The group will start at Bronx Bar
Galleria at 5PM for happy hour, then board the party bus and
go to the game and then party it up at Bronx Bar in Rice Village
after the game. The Bronx Bar staff will be sporting baseball
outfits and Rae will be decorating the bar baseball style. Batter
up! One of my favorite bartenders at Bronx is Devon. She is so
beautiful, inside and out, and has the most upbeat personality.
She is just purely, downright PRECIOUS! Be sure to ask for Devon
and when she makes your drinks; be sure to tip FAT because the
staff there works hard for your buzz so show a little love in
the way of green.
I am going
to be starting with a personal trainer this month, so watch
for a new and improved “less fluffy” version
of me within the next few months. My trainer will be Michealangelo
Morales of www.Fit2Fight.com and he is one of the male models
at the Erotic Cabaret Boutique event on September 12th. He is
offering a discount to new clients who mention Kimberleigh Coyne
or the houstonqueenofclubs.com newsletter, so call him at 832-373-4030.
For the month of September, Mike is offering a FREE Reality-based
Self-Defense Lesson. Call to schedule yours today. If you like
the results of your complimentary lesson, Fit 2 Fight offers
a Self-Defense Course with 10 sessions for Level 1 or Level 2.
Click on the Fit 2 Fight sponsor box to visit the website.
The House

and enjoy the festive atmosphere with their new expanded festival

and seating capacity have also been expanded at Annunciation
Greek Orthodox Cathedral complex where the festival takes place
