THIS WEEKEND: The Houston International Festival fosters good will relations with other countries in an effort to stimulate international trade. With the Port of Houston and our ranking as the 4th largest city in the U.S., Houston is a natural catalyst for trade. The Festival coordinates and works closely with the Greater Houston Partnership, the Greater Houston and Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Houston Protocol Alliance, the Mayor's office, Chambers of Commerce, Consulates, and Embassies. This year's theme is Ireland. The Queen is Irish, by the way. Check the website for entertainers and programs. The festival will take place again this weekend, April 25th and 26th from noon to 10PM on Saturday and noon to 9PM on Sunday. The iFest is located in downtown Houston and includes City Hall, Tranquility Park and Sam Houston Park. For details, click to www.ifest.org.

Want to find out what to do on Wednesdays? There is always a live band, beginning at 8PM at Saint Dane’s Bar and Grill. My friend, Nikki Johnson told me about her DJ friend who makes his own electro music. Check him out on myspace and let me know what you think, myspace.com/djstingray313. Have any news for me about new talent or maybe a new business in town? Thequeen is always looking for “new meat” so to speak, so shoot me a note on Facebook with ideas for my newsletter I’m on there as Kimberleigh Coyne. Next month, Houston’s “Social Butterfly,” Lory Ortiz, will be writing a guest paragraph for my newsletter about a new place in town.

NEWS IN THE BIZ: The owners of Pub Fiction are opening a spot on Washington called “EI8HT” (coming to 5102 Washington) that should be ready by next Spring. Ashley Hawthorne formerly of Front Porch Pub and Crave Sushi will work for EI8HTwhen it opens. Chanel Love, formerly of Front Porch Pub and Pearl Bar is now working at the Lot (4212 Washinton Avenue.) The Manor on Washington is finally open, see manoronwashington.com to preview the place. Gorgeous bartendress, Melinda Sosa can be found at Bam Bou, in Rice Village in the old Gatsby spot. Melinda has been there for a year or so now and she loves it. Tuesdays at Bam Bou are dubbed “Urban Upscale,” Fridays are a trendy, uptown crowd and Saturdays, you’ll find Latin Tropical with lots of salsaand brazilian beats. Bam Bou is at 2540 University Blvd. and at www.bambouhouston.com.

SAVE THE DATE! On May 17th I am co-hosting a birthday bash with two co-workers from Cyclone Anaya’s, hostess Jayme Lewton and my BFF at work, server E.J. Alemany. We are calling our party “Adult Swim” and it will have a beachy-summer theme. It will be at the Galleria location of the Bronx Bar, right across from Macy’s. A flyer will be blasted to my email database and on facebook so keep an eye out for it. DJ Synplicity will be returning as the DJ, He also set the beats for my birthday last year and for the 4th anniversary party for this newsletter too. The newsletter will turn five years old this year in September and of course I will host another celebration. I look forward to planning the best birthday party ever with Bronx Bar Marketing Director, Rae Millican. I just adore Rae to pieces!

Well, kids, as you know, for the past two years, I have been employed by Cyclone Anaya’s and have truly loved my job as hostess, server and Catering Director there but sometimes, in order to grow and improve on personal issues, one has to make changes in their professional lives. It is with a heavy heart I announce my last day at Cyclone Anaya’s will be the dinner shift tonight. I started training for my new job, as a server at Chuy’s on Westheimer at Kirby. Hopefully, you all will come see me there once I have finished training. Who knows, perhaps in the future, I will return to work for Cyclone Anaya’s and without a doubt, I will be at the Cincofest and will go back to eat on a regular basis to see my friends, both the patrons and employees there.

Theresa Lara sent an invitation on Facebook for "Houston's Best Bartender Contest" on Thursday, April 30 at 9:00PM. Bartenders out there who think they have what it takes to be crowned the best, can prove it, at The Black Swan. The event is hosted by ENVY Magazine at The Omni Hotel.

Mother’s Day is next month and what Mom wouldn’t love a portrait of her beloved family. I recommend Holloman Studio Photography. Photographer Chuck Holloman is so talented and creative and will give the same “TLC” to your session and prints that your mom gives you. Contact him soon to set an appointment.
