Greetings, nightlife kittens, remember me? I haven’t written since June and I extend my deepest apologies, but I have been a busy bee at Chuy’s. My fearless leader, Patrick Sebastian has delegated the marketing duties for our location and I am loving performing my tasks, but it hasn’t left me much time to write. I guess I need to get caught up on my adventures over the summer months. First of all, I have “outgrown” Myspace, so I cancelled my account but I would utterly adore to be your friend on Facebook, so find me there listed as Kimberleigh Coyne, and add me. Facebook is my guilty pleasure and I spend hours on my many apps there. It’s addicting!

TONIGHT: I am hosting a Young Active Professionals Happy Hour at Chuy’s (2706 Westheimer) on Monday, September 21st. I think you should visit and join YAP by clicking yapclub.com. There are over 3,300 members in Houston and it isn’t a singles organization, married couples are welcome too. The only requirement is members should be between 21-45 years of age. The happy hour is from 5-9PM. It will feature $3.50 house margaritas (including dots and swirls,) $2.50 domestic beers and a FREE nacho buffet, so please join us. King Rob will be bartending and his personality is larger than life and I will be there PLAYING and hosting the party instead of working, for a change.

How to describe my summer this year, in one word, was “HOT!” Not just hot in sweltering temperatures but in fun, new places I visited during season, HOT and popular places, that is. A crazy and diverse group celebrated my best friend, Teresa Freese’s birthday at the end of June with a dinner at El Tiempo. El Tiempo is not a new spot but I hadn’t been there in about two years and I forgot how much energy that place has. I need to return more often. The food was delish. I had the small order of crabmeat nachos and I loved every bite of them, but I love the crabmeat nachos at Cyclone Anaya’s, my former employer, far more. I miss that dish, and many others, and I need to return to consume mass quantities soon.

I worked at Cyclone Anaya’s for two years, which may explain why I didn’t go to other Mexican restaurants during that time. Speaking of Cyclone Anaya’s (309 Gray @ Bagby) they are now hosting a “Latin Night” each Friday night. It is very exclusive and very posh and in order to gain admittance to the building, you must be on “the list” to get on that exclusive list, I recommend you contact Anabella at 713-520-6969. Please tell her the Queen of Clubs referred you and your entry is guaranteed. I’d like to send a shout out to Suhellen at Cyclone for her recent promotion to manager. Way to go, girlfriend!
I simply MUST tell you about a night that might not be really well-known but SHOULD be! Sundays are Open Mic Night for comedy at Sherlock’s Pub at 1952 West Gray in the River Oaks Shopping Center. It’s no secret I am madly in love with my new job (started April 18th) at Chuy’s but I still adore my former co-workers at Cyclone and they invited me to this wicked-cool Sunday night at Sherlock’s Pub. You should all know my fantasy is to be a professional stand-up comedienne and then go on “Dancing with the Stars.” I was thoroughly inspired when I went to Sherlock’s for Open Mic Night. I worked that night, so I missed about 3 comics, but I arrived and caught the bits performed by Ryan Thauburn, some guy named Frank (I won’t use his last name because he wasn’t funny) and Sam Demeris. Okay, so after the show, I went to talk to them and give high-fives to thank them for the laughter and I also met Slade Ham whose act I missed.

The night was a blast. They offer $2 well cocktails and $2 draft beers and our server, Jacqueline (who was an AMAZING server and adorable) told us about the specials. I went to hang with my old workers and a few new employees since I departed who I have befriended, Salvador, Francisco and Ryan. Ryan is where the comedian connection came in because he was the whole reason we all were there. Might I say it was well worth the trip. First of all, Sherlock’s Pub on West Gray is adorable. I loved the décor and ooohed and ahhhed as soon as I walked in. The restrooms are secluded behind a fake bookcase labeled “W.C” The Brits call restrooms “water closets.”

Anyway, I got side-tracked, and forgot to finish rambling about Teresa’s party, which was a hippie theme, so we all wore hippie costumes for the evening. From El Tiempo, we convoyed over to Spotlight Karaoke, a venue I had never been to. What? A watering hole the Queen has never patronized? That is rare. Teresa planned her party to the grandest measure, complete with hippie-style invitations, hippie party favor bags with peace sign necklaces and incense inside and other groovy goodies and the party only escalated at Spotlight Karaoke where she had rented a private, sound-proof party room for our posse. We had our own selection books, our own plasma screen TV for the words of the songs, our own waitress and our own computer to select our songs. It was really special and we had a blast. The owner of Spotlight Karaoke, Mr. Li, even came in to check on us and say hello and he sang a song for us, “Witchcraft” by Frank Sinatra and he sounds incredibly like Frank. Mr. Li told us he was 82 and we were shocked. He was such a friendly host and looks GREAT for his age!

Now, on to my next wild, birthday party adventure, Aaron Garcia’s birthday at In and Out Lounge. We celebrated on a Thursday and the Chuy’s staff invaded In and Out with about 25 of us for Aaron’s party. It wasn’t just fun, but I have to say it was ENTIRELY tooooooo much fun. It was my first time to go there and Frosty, the Nightlife Tyrant bartends there on Thursdays. He is an icon in town. The place is cute, really cozy and intimate with a spacious deck outside and most impressively In and Out has Wii. Our group “bogarted” the game during the party and I never got the chance to play, but intend to when I return to In and Out. There is also a pool table and mega-touch computer games so it’s like a great little neighborhood bar but had house music blaring which is my favorite genre, while other neighborhood haunts who usually have a jukebox.

I shopped a little bit over the summer and I found a couple of stores that are worth mentioning. Did you know that not only does the Queen adore fashion, but I am both a Certified Image Consultant and I possess an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Fashion Merchandising? Both degrees look really nifty in their frames on my wall, but I obviously chose a different career path. Anyway, I discovered this fantastic store in Rice Village called Method (2437 University.) Method sells fashions and accessories for both men and women and their goods are reasonably priced. I also fell in love with the Buffalo Exchange when I was shopping for hippie garb to wear to Teresa’s party and I found both a blouse and a lariat for under $20. They have fantastic merchandise for both genders as well.

Are you Service Industry? The Mezzanine Lounge at 2200 Southwest Freeway, Suite 150, offers a S.I.N. card that entitles the bearer to happy hour prices all of the time which means $2.50 domestics and $3.00 well drinks or import beers. On Tuesday nights, it’s Service Industry Night all night long, with $2.50 u-call-its. Next time you are at the Mezz, let the bartender or server know where you work (in the service industry) and ask for your S.I.N card.

Due to the fact this is the first QOC since June, I will write two issues in October. Pinky swear! Until then, meet me at Chuy’s on the 21st I will be handing out fun goodies like magnets, coupons and maybe even a t-shirt or dinner for 2, so join us! If you’d like to book a happy hour event at Chuy’s River Oaks, call me to arrange it, 832-885-7274.

Oh, and one more tid-bit, this newsletter will celebrate it’s 5th anniversary next month with a party at the brand-new Bronx Bar at 4520 Washington. It will be Industry Night with drink specials for those in the biz and the beats will be provided by award-winning DJ Red. I will be sporting a new tattoo, it will be the QOC martini glass logo and my ink and I will be celebrating so I hope you all will take Tuesday the 20th off from work because my party is on Monday, October 19th. Holla at your girl and BE THERE!
