Happy Wednesday,
my Nightlife Kittens. It's been awhile. I have toyed with the
idea of retiring this newsletter, especially since I haven't
written it since November, but I got the "itch" to
write again this month and if I get enough response from my readers
to make me think ya'll want me to continue, I'll go back to writing
this newsletter monthly. Scratch my itch if you want me to continue
writing and drop me an email at houston_queen_of_clubs@yahoo.com.
If I get enough responses from my list of over 13,000 readers,
there will be a July issue. I just feel like after the 5+ year
run, you might be sick of reading. Are you? Let me know. The
sixth year anniversary party for this newsletter will be in September,
if I proceed with writing.
I am hosting a happy hour event tonight
at Chuy's River Oaks. The event is a www.houstonqueenofclubs.com happy hour and a Young Active Professionals (YAP) mixer on Wednesday,
June 16th from 5-8PM. Young Active Professionals is a group with
over 4,200 Houston members. The only requirement to join is that
you are between the ages of 21-45. It is not a singles' group,
and married couples are welcome. Membership is free, so join
today at yapclub.com and you’ll get invitations to many
events, activities, happy hours, outings and trips in their weekly
email newsletter. I have been a member for over four years. Whether
you are a YAP member or not, please attend the Chuy's happy hour
on Wednesday.
This memorable event will feature $3.50 house
margaritas, $2.50 domestic beers and $2.00 Lone Stars until 7PM.
There is also a complimentary nacho car buffet for us and each
attendee will get a ticket from me, redeemable for half-price
appetizers until closing time at 11PM. Don't forget about the
three, limited time only drinks Chuy's now offers...to be mentioned
later in this newsletter.
There is yet another bar that has opened
on Washington Avenue and it is named Liberty Station, located
at 2101 Washington. My dear friend, Cesar Reyna of Stranger Promotions,
informed me of the new venue, so I have put it on my "to
do" list to visit when I get time off. You should too. If
you go before I invade Liberty Station, please email me as to
what your opinions are of the place.
So, onto the subject of
events this month, let's talk! I will rearrange my work schedule
to attend the second installment of the "Picture This" Summer
Photography Series at Method ( 2437 University Blvd.) Method
is an extremely hip and surprisingly affordable mens and womens
fashion boutique located in the heart of the Arcade Shops at
West University. There will be drinks, music and a viewing of
the works of photographer Robin Arouty. 25% of the event's sales
will benefit Buster's Friends, a local non-profit organization
dedicated to helping and placing homeless and abandoned animals.
This is a cause near and dear to my heart because all five of
my pets are rescue adoptees. They have changed my life. My best
friend, Teresa, has been a volunteer dog-walker for Buster's
Friends for quite some time and recently adopted a tiny mix-breed
precious little dog who is now named Gabby. Please attend to
support this worthy cause and shop for some stylish apparel in
the process. The event is on Thursday, June 24th from 5:00 until
9:00PM. For more information, call Method at 713-807-0003. I
hope to see many of you at the event on June 24th.
Like Sushi?
I live for it, so if you are a fan, I need to recommend you stop
by Crave Sushi (2900 Travis.) They are running a special for
the entire month of June where if you buy two sushi rolls, your
third roll is FREE. Say hello to Meghan, the adorable bartender
at Crave. She is the reason I sit at the bar when I eat at Crave.
The Cheetah Roll is the reason I hosted my birthday dinner there
in May. Imagine this in your mouth, inside: Surimi Crab Mix,
Cream Cheese, Cucumber, Avocado, Siracha and Spicy Mayo. Outside:
Crushed Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Wasabi Cream and Jalapeños.
It is to die for and is certainly one of the top ten things that
make me smile most!
Also this month is an event called "Cultured
Cocktails" on Thursday, June 17th from 5-10PM at Boheme
Cafe and Wine Bar (204 Fairview.) Please attend and raise your
glasses at "Cultured Cocktails" with the Center for
Hearing and Speech presenting Via Colori. Come learn about Via
Colori, a street-painting festival that benefits the Center for
Hearing and Speech. In it’s fifth year, Via Colori 2010
takes place in Sam Houston Park the weekend of November 20th
through the 21st and will showcase the talents of over 250 artists
in the exceptional art of street painting with chalk. This two
day event, free to the public, features food and drink, live
bands on 2 stages and activities for all ages. Plus, there are
opportunities to be a part of this unique event for more local
artists and photographers too. A good portion of the bar proceeds
for the June 17th event will benefit Via Colori Houston. Special
thanks to Boheme and event partner Spacetaker.org and extra special
thanks to Lisa Benetiz for inviting me to the event.
Newsworthy
is the fact I now have a second job at Massage Envy Galleria
(5387 Westheimer) as a Sales Associate, which is why I haven't
written much since November...I now work seven days a week and
I take only two days a month off. If you've never had a professional
massage, as I had never experienced until I came to work for
Massage Envy, I encourage you to do so. Massage is not just for
when you have aches and pains, but it prevents a lot of problems
and increases your immunity as well as aids with insomnia, allergies,
A.D.D., stress relief and much more, so contact me to schedule
your introductory massage at $39 per hour by calling or texting
my cell Wednesday through Sunday at 832-885-7274 or at Massage
Envy Monday or Tuesday when I am working there, at 713-627-ENVY.
Chuy's has three new concoctions on the menu
that I simply MUST rave about and you MUST come in to try as
soon as possible. I have already done extensive research on the
trio and I give them each a hearty thumbs up! Chuy's Cherry Limeade
($5.25) is a refreshing blend of Three Olives Cherry Vodka, fresh
lime juice and sprite and Palapa Punch ($6.95) a tasty blend
of 1800 Reposado Tequila, Three Olives Cherry Vodka, orange and
lime juices, Agave Nectar and Monin Pomegranate Syrup, and the
big finale, my favorite of the new bunch is Grandma's Rockin'
Rita ($8.95) this top-shelf margarita, proudly served in an orange-salt
rimmed pint glass is a doozie, chocked full of 1800 Silver tequila,
fresh-squeezed lime juice and just enough Grand Marnier to make
you say "WOW!" Your
Granny would be proud of you for drinking this baby down. |
